About Best Edinburgh

Why Best Edinburgh was started, which Edinburgh jobs get their own list, how far from the centre the lists reach and what lies outside its remit.

A sash window in a New Town flat has rotted at the sill, the building is listed and you want a firm that knows sash and case windows rather than one that only fits modern frames. Or a nursery place has fallen through two weeks before you go back to work. Best Edinburgh is for moments like these. For every job it builds a short list of Edinburgh businesses whose trade this is, so you begin with names that fit.

What the lists cover

The jobs people in Edinburgh search for. For the home: stonemasons, joiners, roofers, sash window specialists, plumbers, gas engineers, electricians and builders. For health: private dentists and GPs, scans, physiotherapists, opticians, therapists and care homes. Aesthetic clinics, hairdressers and barbers. Solicitors, letting agents, surveyors, accountants, tax advisers and wealth managers. Car garages, MOT testing and driving lessons. Nurseries, tutors, music teachers and classes. Wedding venues, photographers, kilt hire, pipers and ceilidh bands. Vets, dog groomers and trainers. Further lists are added as they are completed.

Edinburgh and its edges

The lists serve people who live, work or are moving house in Edinburgh, from the Old and New Towns, Stockbridge, Bruntsfield, Marchmont, Morningside and Newington to Leith, Portobello and Corstorphine, and in places just past the boundary such as Musselburgh. Places further out, such as Livingston, Penicuik and Dunfermline, are not covered. Each entry shows its address, which makes the trip easy to size up, by tram, bus, bike or car.

What we do not do

We are not tradespeople, clinicians or lawyers, and nothing here replaces the advice of a doctor, solicitor, financial adviser or builder. We arrange no jobs, give no quotes, take no payments from readers and never look over anyone’s work. What you agree is for you and the business to settle.

Who pays for the site

No adverts appear on the site and readers are never charged. Businesses already chosen can add Pro, which puts contact details, photos, prices and promotions on their page, or Top, a slot among the first three on their list. Both plans are clearly marked on every page where they show, and everyone else keeps the position we gave them. Suggestions and corrections can be sent to info@bestedinburgh.uk.
